Is digital shoreline analysis system “fit” for gully erosion assessment?

چکیده
Gully erosion represents one of the most destructive geomorphological processes at a global level. Modern methods gully measurement are typically derived from earlier techniques that have since become outdated. The increasing capabilities technology had led to new ways quantifying soil (e.g. erosion) which must be used in assessment. A tool designed assess coastal – Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS), is applied analysis erosion. To usefulness this technique, three different types gullies were chosen (dendritic, linear, and linear became dendritic) Moldavian Plateau Romania chosen. Different parameters (SCE, EPR, NSM, LRR) tested analysed. best results obtained case dendritic with specific adjustments processing values (smoothing distance set >1000 transect spacing >5 m). In gullies, smoothing needs lower compared (<= 1000). When it comes evolved into gully, recommendation use distances high (>1000) >10 m. average rates help DSAS very close ones literature on (over 1.5 m/yr under 1 for cut sandy clay deposits, respectively). This leads us conclusion “fit” However, like any other software, has limitations possible disadvantages. can successfully field mitigation, disaster risk reduction, environmental cultural heritage protection reaching UNSDG.

Time variations analysis of the Hormoz strait northern shoreline by using Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS)
Extended abstract 1- Introduction Coastal systems are very dynamic, and their movement is relatively fast due to the collision of onshore and marine environment. The majority of the world's population is concentrated along with the coastal areas. Hormuz Strait coasts are affected by morphological variables due to the hydrodynamics of the sea and the dynamics of coastal and onshore environme...
متن کاملGully Erosion after Wildfire
Predicting runoff and erosion from watersheds burned by wildfires requires an understanding of the spatial structure of both hillslope and channel drainage networks. We investigate the small-scale and large-scale structures of drainage networks using field studies and computer analysis of 30-m digital elevation model. Topologic variables were derived from a composite 30-m DEM, which included 14...
متن کاملShoreline Modeling and Erosion Prediction
This paper presents a shoreline-erosion prediction model of Lake Erie that can forecast shoreline changes from annual to 10-year increments. It was developed by using historical bluffline data of years 1973, 1990, 1994, and 2000 at Lake Erie provided by NOAA and local government agencies. The relationships among these historical shorelines are analyzed using a least-squares method. Erosion rate...
متن کاملThe Gully Erosion Effect On the Environment
The paper contains data about the destructive effects of gully erosion on the environment. It provides general information about the gully erosion in several countries around the world including Romania and is considered a case study for a river basin located in the Semenic Mountains (Bârzava drainage area). The case study is based on the following assumptions: the presence of different types o...
متن کاملDigital Tide-Coordinated Shoreline
The shoreline is one of the most important features on earth’s surface. It is valuable to a diverse user community. But the dynamic nature of the shorelinemakes it dif cult to be represented in a naturally dynamic style and to be utilized in applications. The of cially usedshoreline, for examplein nauticalcharts,is the so-calledtide-coordinatedshoreline. It is also the shoreline that makes the ...
